I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately, thinking about what I need to do to move forward in my life and how I can keep progressing toward the person I want to become. The gospel of Jesus Christ is at the very center of that journey. It is the source of real happiness, real direction, and real strength. How blessed I am to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I’ve read articles and heard stories from those who have
left the Church, as well as from those who have never taken the time to truly
understand its doctrine. Oddly enough, instead of shaking my faith, these
things have only strengthened my testimony. My heart aches for those who don’t
have the gospel, and even more for those who once had it and let it slip away.
I know the Book of Mormon is true. I’ve read it, pondered
it, and the Holy Ghost has borne witness to my soul of its truthfulness.
Moroni’s words echo in my heart:
“Did I not declare my words unto you… even as one
speaking out of the dust? … And God shall show unto you, that that which I have
written is true.”
(Moroni 10:27, 29)
Recently, I attended girls camp for what feels like the
millionth time. But this time, I wasn’t there as a leader. I simply watched.
And it was a powerful lesson to step back and let others grow. More than once I
caught myself thinking, “If they would only listen to those with experience,
so many problems could be avoided.”
And immediately, the Book of Mormon came to mind. I could
almost hear Lehi, Nephi, Mosiah, Alma, King Benjamin, Jacob, Mormon, Moroni, all
of them, echoing the same message to me:
“If she (meaning me) would only listen and learn from those who have
experience.”
These prophets, these disciples, these faithful men and
women have spent their lives, and in many cases, given their lives, to preserve
truth for us. Their voices rise from the dust, pleading with us to listen, to
learn, and to follow the path they’ve already walked.
I am so grateful for their sacrifices. I am grateful for the
priceless lessons preserved in this sacred book. And I am grateful that in a
world full of noise, doubt, and distraction, the Lord still speaks peace to
those who seek Him.
